Cattle in Yards

Cattle

The poperties main income comes from the cattle and Haulage business, these cattle are in the yards close to the house. When they arrive off the truck they have to be sprayed for pests and ticks not usually found in this area and 'blooded' which means they are injected with blood that has ammunity to common diseases in cattle. They are kept in quarantine for a few days then released into a paddock.

Chopper

Mustering

Mustering is usually done 3 times a year, depending on the quality of country at the time and the amount of rain. A chopper and pilot are hired for a few hours to help, the rest is done on motor bike. Although there are horses on the property i think they would have a heart attack if they worked so are not used.

Haulage Truck

Hayman Livestock Haulage Truck

The truck is driven by Chris who lives in Richmond, it travels throughout Queensland and some of the Northern Territory. Here it is along the road to the stationt just after the trailers had been repainted by a company in Dalby. The last dog trailer has to be taken off and left otherwise the truck won't make it up the jump up.

New Tank

New Tank

The new water tank had just been installed and Glenn and his water truck had to fill it up. It took 3 hour long trips to the pump and back to fill it.

Loading Dump Truck

Mount Moss Mine

Curtain Brother brought a mining lease on Zig Zag station and began
setting up for an ironore mine last year. Although not fully opperational a great deal of work has been done to the road which will eventually be bitumened. This is good news for the station as there will be no dirt to travel on and the trucks will get in easier.

Dozer

Dozer

In addition to contracting workers to the mine, Ian & Sue have a number of machines hired to the mine. This dozer is one of them, it is digging a pit looking for 'deco' which is a sandy substance used in road base. This machine is usually driven by Ryan.

Grader

Grader

The grader is another machine hired to the mine, usually driven by a Curtain Brothers employee from Papua New Guinea it is working on the road in preparation for the final trim.

Tipper

Side Tipper

The side tipper is also owned by Ian & Sue, and is driven by Adam. The truck is also used for general haulage for the mine and private customers. This was it and Adam's first job carting deco from the pit.
